Gorgeous Victorian Reynold’s Angels Cigarette Case
Assay London Birmingham (circa 1897) fully Hallmarked. This beautiful feminine example of English Silver in a much sought after design. The Reynold’s Angels motif design is often found on English silver. It is inspired by a portrait of a young 5 year-old Lady Frances Gordon, painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds. Anterior Panel – The young Miss Frances is surrounded by beautiful cherubic faced angels, amidst the clouds. This specific Silver case is particularly detailed and brightly etched in repoussè relief, the corners decorated with bluebells, each little angelic face very clear and bright. The interior is gilded, bearing full hallmarks, and the original cigar elastic is in place. Posterior panel- bears an oval cartouche with the initials B.J.A. Closes securely.
