Victorian Gold Ring with Sapphire
Victorian 9K Yellow Gold & Sapphire Gypsy Ring. This dainty gypsy ring with starburst engraving and 3x small Sapphires (approximate 0.06ct total), makes for a Pinky finger delight! It hides a rebellious history, where both Victorian men and women, who were not open to courtship nor matrimony, wore a gypsy ring on their left little finger. The ring evolved to give the Victorians an escape from the pomp of ornate jewellery, to a more streamlined solution for hiding precious gems in an unobtrusive setting, often the gold shank would be curved and thickly made at the top, allowing for the setting of deeper cut gems like diamonds- the head/ top of the ring always a smooth and snag free surface, allowing freedom to work. This ring boasts a full set of Hallmarks- Assay Birmingham date Marked circa 1845.
